End-of-Lease Repairs - Lingfield

If your lease or PCP is coming to an end, the inspection at the other end is not looking for perfection, but it is looking. Damage beyond fair wear and tear is charged back to you at rates you had no part in setting, on an assessment you were not present for.

Having the work done beforehand puts you back in control of the cost.

What usually gets charged

In our experience, the same handful of items account for most end-of-lease bills:

• Kerbed and scuffed alloy wheels. The most commonly charged item by a distance.
• Bumper scuffs and car park damage. Front and rear corners especially.
• Particularly door edges and anything on a crease line.
• Scratches through the lacquer. Light surface marks are usually accepted, anything deeper generally is not.
• Windscreen chips. Worth checking before the vehicle goes.

What is not worth repairing

Not every mark needs fixing, and we will tell you where to leave it alone. Fair wear and tear allows for a car that has been used, and paying to correct something that would have been accepted anyway is money wasted.

Bring the car in or send us photographs and we will go through it with you honestly, item by item.

Why it is usually cheaper

Two reasons. You are paying a local body shop’s price rather than a recharge rate, and you can choose what to have done rather than being presented with a list after the event.

Most of this is SMART repair work, which is quick and often the same day.

When to do it

Roughly four to eight weeks before the car goes back. Early enough not to be rushed, late enough that it will not pick up fresh damage in the meantime.

If your return date is sooner than that, ring us anyway. Much of this work is quicker than people expect.
