Cosmetic & SMART Repairs
Not every mark on a car needs a full panel repair. SMART repair stands for Small and Medium Area Repair Technique, and it means fixing the damaged area rather than refinishing the whole panel.
Done properly, it is quicker, cheaper and less disruptive, and on the right damage, the result is indistinguishable.
We would rather be straight with you about this, because the limits of SMART repair are where people get disappointed.
If the damage crosses several panels, if it has gone through to bare metal over a wide area, if a panel is creased rather than dented, or if there is any structural damage behind it, then it needs conventional bodywork repair. Attempting a cosmetic fix on any of those gives you a repair you can see and money spent twice.
Send us a photograph, and we will tell you honestly which it is.
Kerbed wheel repair is one of the most common jobs we do, and one of the most worthwhile. A set of scuffed alloys ages a car more than almost anything else, and refurbishment is straightforward on most standard finishes.
If you are about to hand a lease car back, wheels are one of the first things assessed and one of the most frequently recharged. Getting them done beforehand is almost always cheaper than the recharge.
Most cosmetic work is a matter of hours rather than days, and much of it can be done while you are at work. We will give you a realistic time when you send the photographs.
The majority of this work is paid for privately, and for good reason. For small damage, the cost is often comparable to an excess, without the claim on your record.
We will give you a straight price so you can decide for yourself. If it is worth claiming for, we will tell you that too.
SMART repair is particularly useful across a fleet, because it keeps vehicles earning. Bumper scuffs, door dents and kerbed wheels can usually be dealt with without a vehicle being off the road for any length of time, and it keeps vehicles presentable between heavier repairs.
It is also the core of end-of-lease preparation.
End-of-Lease & De-Fleet Repairs for Fleet
A picture of the damage and one of the whole panel from a few feet back is usually enough for a price.
