A courtesy car is a vehicle we may be able to provide while we carry out work on yours. Availability is limited, so it is always worth asking early rather than assuming one will be there.

Not the same as a replacement vehicle

These two get confused constantly, and the difference matters.

A courtesy car is provided by us, subject to availability, while we carry out insurance or private repair work. It keeps you mobile. It will not necessarily be the same size or type of vehicle as your own.

A like-for-like replacement vehicle arises on a non-fault claim, where somebody else caused the damage, and is intended to match the vehicle you have been deprived of.

Arranging one

Ask when you book the work rather than when you drop the car off. Courtesy cars go quickly, and we can usually work around your dates if we know early enough.

Tell us what you actually need it for. If you have child seats to move across, a dog, or something you have to carry, say so and we will do our best to match it.

What you need

A full valid driving licence and the usual documentation. We will tell you exactly what to bring when we confirm the booking, and there are normal conditions around age, licence history and use. Nothing unusual, but worth knowing in advance rather than on the day.

If we cannot provide one

We will tell you honestly and in good time rather than leaving you to find out at the counter, and we will look at whether we can arrange something else or work the repair around your dates instead.
